Severe Concern of UN Human Rights Special Rapporteur Over Execution of Juveniles in Iran

Javid Rehman, UN Special Rapporteur on human rights in Iran, has reported at least 173 executions in the current year. It is stated that two of those executed were 17 years old. Rehman has criticized the violation of minority rights in Iran.
Javid Rehman, UN Special Rapporteur on human rights in Iran, has expressed concerns about the execution of juveniles and the increasing pressure on minorities in the country. The human rights violations report in Iran, which was prepared under Javid Rehman’s supervision, has been submitted to the United Nations.
On Thursday, November 2nd (October 24th) the German news agency reported from Geneva about the publication of Javid Rehman’s report on human rights violations by the Islamic Republic of Iran.
This report was prepared by the UN Special Rapporteur on human rights in Iran and was presented to the UN General Assembly.
Javid Rehman wrote in his report that by mid-July of the current year, at least 173 people have been executed in Iran. The report specifies that some members of minorities were also among those executed.
Furthermore, the report states that two of those executed in the current year were 17 years old. Javid Rehman announced in his report that in 2018, seven juveniles were executed in Iran.
Expression of Severe Concern
The UN Special Rapporteur on human rights expressed concern about the situation of young detainees in Iran. His report states that it is currently estimated that the death penalty threatens the lives of 90 people who were under 18 years old at the time of committing the crime.
Javid Rehman referred to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights’ resolution on juvenile executions and considered this Iranian action a clear violation of international standards.
This resolution includes individuals who were under 18 years old at the time of committing the crime. The UN Human Commissioner for Human Rights has called for the immediate cessation of the death penalty for these detainees.
Criticism of Increased Pressure on Minorities
The German news agency further referred to the increasing pressure on ethnic and religious minorities in Iran. Javid Rehman believes that the main pressure resulting from the deterioration of economic conditions is largely transferred to ethnic and religious minorities in Iran.
The UN Special Rapporteur on human rights in Iran has criticized the number of executions among members of minorities in Iran. He has also emphasized that a large portion of political prisoners in Iran are members of religious and ethnic minorities.
Rehman, while referring to the possibility of women entering stadiums, emphasized that despite this, discrimination against women continues and their rights are violated both legally and in practice.
