Sit-in at Tehran University in Protest Against Expulsion of Activist Students from Education

A group of students at Tehran University held a sit-in in support of Soha Mortazaei, an expelled student, and in protest against expulsion orders of students in the university campus.
Based on news and images published on social media, in this sit-in held on Tuesday, October 30, 2019, following a call by the university’s student council, students protested against the deprivation of their union rights.
Soha Mortazaei, an expelled student and former secretary of the Central Student Council of Tehran University, has been on a sit-in in front of the university’s central library for approximately 10 days.
Soha Mortazaei, who was arrested during the December 2017 protests, has been sentenced to six years of imprisonment and two years of deprivation from membership in political parties and groups.
The expulsion of this student comes at a time when one of Hassan Rouhani’s election promises in the presidential election was to return activist students to education.
