Qazvin Meter Manufacturing Workers Gather Again in Front of Governor’s Office to Protest Wage Delays

A group of Qazvin meter manufacturing workers gathered in front of the Qazvin Governor’s Office for the consecutive time in a protest action to claim their rights and receive their overdue wages.

According to news reports published by ILNA news agency and Iran Labor News Agency, this group of Qazvin meter manufacturing workers gathered on Thursday, October 25, carrying banners in front of the Qazvin Governor’s Office in protest of not receiving their outstanding wage claims and unfulfilled promises by officials and parliament representatives, demanding intervention in the company’s situation.

Based on this report, Qazvin meter manufacturing workers have currently not received salaries for approximately seven months and are owed 24 months of overdue wages from previous years.

According to one of the protesting workers, a Qazvin provincial official gave an interview on state radio and television a few days ago, announcing that workers would receive their rights, but nothing has happened so far.

Based on available information, despite the fact that the CEO and chairman of the board of Qazvin meter manufacturing company are currently in prison due to economic charges, the workers’ problems continue.

According to another protesting worker, the protesting workers of Qazvin meter manufacturing company have been told to stop complaining about the company’s cash registers, as the company will be auctioned on the eighth of Aban month, and with changes and sales of the registers at high prices, all workers’ accounts will be settled until Ordibehesht month of next year.

The meter manufacturing factory, located in Qazvin Industrial Zone, also witnessed gatherings last month due to workforce reduction. According to reports, the factory had approximately 350 to 400 workers, and over the past two to three years, the number of workers has been reduced to a maximum of 200 workers.

Labor protests in Iran have increased following currency fluctuations and growing economic problems, and Islamic Republic officials have recently acknowledged the increase in public discontent.

The United States has repeatedly condemned the security measures taken by Iran’s ruling regime against workers and labor and professional activists. Similarly, the U.S. State Department stated some time ago in a message that the Islamic Republic regime could have paid workers’ salaries in Iran with the expenses it has incurred in Syria.
