Court hearing held for Ali Nejati, member of Haft Tappeh workers’ syndicate

Reports indicate that Ali Nejati, a member of the Haft Tappeh workers’ syndicate and retired worker, was tried at the Tehran Revolutionary Court on Sunday, November 19.

Ali Nejati, a retired worker facing two charges of “assembly and conspiracy with intent to act against national security” and “propaganda activity against the system,” appeared at the Revolutionary Court on Sunday, November 19.

The Haft Tappeh workers’ syndicate described the court hearing as “orchestrated” on Monday, November 20, reporting that during the hearing Judge Moghisseh used terms such as “counter-revolutionary” and “anti-system” to discredit Ali Nejati in front of the audience.

The Haft Tappeh workers’ syndicate condemned the holding of this court hearing, which they described as “orchestrated and anti-worker,” and called for the closure of all cases against Haft Tappeh workers.

Ali Nejati’s court hearing took place in circumstances where this labor activist had previously been summoned to the Tehran Revolutionary Court via “text message.”

Ali Nejati, a member of the board of directors of the Haft Tappeh workers’ syndicate, was arrested at his home on November 8 of the previous year on charges of involvement in strikes by Haft Tappeh sugar cane workers. After some time, on the eighth of Bahman of that year, he was released from prison on medical leave due to having heart and respiratory illness.

The United States has repeatedly condemned Iran’s security treatment of workers, and the Persian account of the U.S. State Department on Twitter had previously announced that with the costs the Islamic Republic has incurred in Syria, it could have paid workers’ wages in Iran.
