A Labor Activist from Sanandaj Transferred to the City’s Central Prison

Khalil Karimi, a member of the board of directors of the Free Union of Iranian Workers and a labor activist in Sanandaj, was transferred to Sanandaj Central Prison to serve his sentence.
According to reports published on social media, Khalil Karimi, a member of the board of directors of the Free Union of Iranian Workers, was arrested on Monday, September 23, following a visit to Branch 4 of the enforcement of court orders at the Sanandaj Revolutionary Court, and was transferred to Sanandaj Central Prison to serve his two-month prison sentence.
According to reports, Khalil Karimi was charged on July 5, 2018, during a visit to Branch 1 of the Sanandaj Revolutionary Court on charges of “propaganda against the system due to participation in the International Workers’ Day ceremony” and “support for the campaign against the execution of Ramin Hossein Panahi.”
The Free Union of Iranian Workers states that the hearing on the charges against Mr. Khalili was held on September 10 of the previous year by Judge Hossein Saeidi, head of Branch 1 of the Sanandaj Revolutionary Court, and this labor activist was sentenced to one year in prison by the Sanandaj Revolutionary Court on November 17, 2018, and the verdict was communicated to him on December 21 of the same year.
According to reports released by the Free Union of Iranian Workers, the one-year prison sentence issued for this labor activist was reduced to two months by Branch 4 of the Court of Appeals of Kurdistan Province, and this sentence was communicated to this labor activist on August 23, 2019.
Nahid Khodajou was another member of the Free Union of Iranian Workers who was arrested on International Workers’ Day along with several other labor activists and journalists in front of parliament. After 33 days of detention, she was released from Evin Prison on June 4 on bail pending the completion of legal proceedings.
The United States has repeatedly condemned Iran’s security crackdown on workers. The U.S. State Department said some time ago in a message that the Islamic Republic regime could have paid workers’ wages in Iran with the expenses it has incurred in Syria.
