Human Rights Watch Syria: 6 Iranian Forces Killed in Israeli Strikes

The human rights monitoring group in Syria announced on Thursday, August 3, that Israeli missile attacks on southern Syria this week resulted in the deaths of 6 Iranian military personnel.
According to reports from this non-profit organization that monitors Syrian war developments, Israel struck early Wednesday with its missiles at “Iranian intelligence and military locations and positions of Iran-backed militias.”
Syrian state media also covered Israeli military attacks on military positions of the Syrian government and its allies in Daraa province, but these reports made no mention of the possible casualty figures from the strikes.
According to the Syrian human rights monitoring group, 6 Iranian forces and three forces supporting the Syrian government were killed in these attacks.
Since the start of Syria’s civil war in 2011, Israel has conducted hundreds of airstrikes on Syrian territory, targeting the government forces and its key allies including Iran and Hezbollah in Lebanon.
Israeli officials typically do not provide explanations about these attacks and only emphasize that they are exercising their right to defend against Iran and Hezbollah. The area that became the target of Israeli strikes on Wednesday is located near the Golan Heights, which Israel has occupied.
The Syrian war has so far claimed more than 370,000 lives and has resulted in the intervention of regional and international powers.
The Syria human rights monitor says that less than a month ago, Israel’s airstrikes also killed six civilians including three children as well as 9 forces supporting Bashar al-Assad’s government.
