Narges Mohammadi Holds Prison Organization and Judiciary Responsible for Death of Alireza Shirmohammadali

Narges Mohammadi, a human rights activist imprisoned in Iran, has issued a statement holding the Prison Organization and the Judiciary responsible for the killing of Alireza Shirmohammadali.
In a statement published on Tuesday, July 4 on the website of the Campaign to Defend Political Prisoners, Ms. Mohammadi, referring to the killing of this 21-year-old youth in Fashafuyeh Prison, described it as a reflection of the inadequacy of judicial officials and the Prison Organization.
The statement indicates that despite the killing of political prisoners and suspicious deaths in detention centers in recent years, not only has no impartial court been established to investigate these cases, but these killings have continued and, in the absence of oversight and inspection by independent supervisory bodies, will persist.
The imprisoned human rights activist further referred to other political and ideological prisoners, including Zeinab Jalalian, Sepideh Qolian, Baha’i women, Marjan Davari, and others, who are being held among women with ordinary charges, noting that this matter has been repeatedly raised and requests have been made to transfer them back to the women’s ward of Evin Prison, but their pleas have been ignored.
Alireza Shirmohammadali, a political prisoner in Tehran’s Fashafuyeh Prison, was stabbed and killed on Monday evening, June 11, in an attack by two inmates.
His lawyer stated that the attack was carried out by two murder suspects who apparently had no prior conflict with Alireza Shirmohammadali.
Alireza Shirmohammadali was sentenced to 8 years in prison in June 2018 on charges of “propaganda against the system, insulting sacred values, insulting the founder of the Islamic Republic, and insulting the supreme leader,” and his appellate court hearing was scheduled for July 18 of this year.
