Fasa Sugar Factory Workers Rally Over Delayed Wages

A group of workers at Fasa sugar factory held a protest rally in objection to their unpaid wage claims.

According to the Azad Workers Union report, on Wednesday, April 18, a number of workers at the “Fasa sugar factory” located in the southeastern part of Shiraz stopped work and held a protest rally in front of the factory in objection to non-payment of one month of delayed wages from Esfand, along with bonuses and year 2018 rewards.

This is not the first time workers at this factory have held protest rallies. On Monday, January 30, 2018, workers at Fasa sugar factory held a protest rally in objection to non-payment of two months of delayed wages and lack of workplace safety facilities.

In 2016, these workers also held several protest rallies in front of this factory and the city’s special governorate office.

Fasa sugar factory is a subsidiary of the “Atka” organization affiliated with the Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces Logistics. It was established in 1954 and began operations in 1956. This factory is one of the most important factories in southern Iran and resumed its production activities, which had been suspended since 2013 due to financial crisis, from February 8, 2017 onwards.

Economic protests in Iran have increased over the past two years with rising prices and growing economic problems.
