Iranian Red Crescent Complains Against Former IRGC Commander

The Iranian Red Crescent Society announced that it is filing a complaint against Saeid Qasemi, a former commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), for “misusing” the organization’s emblem “for military purposes” during the Bosnian War.

Qasemi had stated in an interview with an internet program that in the 1970s, along with Hossein Allahkaram, he traveled to Bosnia under the “cover” of the Red Crescent forces and provided military training to Muslim forces there.

He had stated that he was disclosing this matter because it had previously been “revealed and Americans have written about it in their books.”

However, the Red Crescent Society announced: “If any person or institution has misused the emblem and uniform of the Iranian Red Crescent Society in a manner contrary to the objectives and principles of this international organization, it would certainly have been without the permission and coordination of this organization, and if coordination and permission were to be considered, such an action would certainly not be permitted.”

The statement emphasized that the Red Crescent is “neutral in armed conflicts in accordance with the four Geneva Conventions, as it has an important mission of protecting humanity and assisting non-combatants.”
