Even Iran’s own statistics show; Iran experienced worse economic recession than expected last year

Iran says its economy experienced worse recession last year than predicted by international organizations. The United States resumed sanctions on Iran’s oil industries and financial sector starting from the previous year.

Iran’s “Statistics Center” said in a report released on Sunday that Iran’s gross domestic product in 1397 (2018-2019) shrank by approximately 4.9 percent.

The “World Bank” reported earlier this month that Iran’s gross domestic product after 3.8 percent growth in 2017 shrank by approximately 1.9 percent in 2018.

The “International Monetary Fund” said in an April report that Iran’s gross domestic product in 2018 shrank by approximately 3.9 percent.

The “World Bank” and “International Monetary Fund” have estimated Iran’s economic recession in the current year to be negative 4.5 percent and negative 6 percent respectively.
