Tehran City Council Calls for Environmental Organization’s Intervention on Hospital Waste

Zahra Sadr Aazam Nouri, head of the health commission of Tehran City Council, called for the environmental protection organization to intervene in the dispute between the municipality and the Ministry of Health over confirming the safety of medical waste.
According to ABNA news agency, this Tehran City Council member said: “Dr. Ayazi, one of the deputies of the Ministry of Health, states that our medical waste is all waste that has been rendered safe. Whereas we have received reports from some experts regarding the failure to neutralize some medical waste… Certainly, in this regard, the environmental protection organization must issue its opinion so that we can take the necessary action based on their statement.”
Previously, reports had been published in the media about hospital waste being dumped around Tehran and in regular garbage bins across the city. In Ahvaz, too, according to one of the officials of Jundi-Shapur University, hospital waste in this city is being buried mixed with other waste.
