Reza Khandan, Nasrin Sotoudeh’s Husband, Arrested

Security forces arrested Reza Khandan, the husband of Nasrin Sotoudeh, and transferred him to Evin Prosecutor’s Office.

Mr. Khandan had previously stated that he was summoned by phone to the Ministry of Intelligence, but would refuse to go there because such summons are unlawful.

Amnesty International immediately condemned the arrest of Reza Khandan following his detention and demanded his unconditional release as well as that of his wife Nasrin Sotoudeh. Nasrin Sotoudeh, a lawyer and human rights activist, is also imprisoned in Evin.

The U.S. State Department also posted a tweet in Persian stating that it is closely following the news of Reza Khandan’s arrest and several lawyers who have recently been detained in Iran.

Reza Khandan had previously informed media outlets about judicial and security measures against his wife.

Nasrin Sotoudeh, prior to her husband’s arrest and in protest of the proceedings in her case and other detained civil activists, has been on a hunger strike in Evin Prison for the past eleven days.
