Hrana News Agency – Rostam Arkia, a political prisoner in exile from Makoo, was conditionally released from Yazd Prison on Wednesday, the 18th of Esfand.

According to Hrana News Agency, citing the Kurdistan Democracy and Human Rights Center, on Wednesday, the 18th of Esfand 1400, Rostam Arkia, a political prisoner from Makoo, was released from Yazd Prison.

Mr. Arkia’s release was conditional.

He had previously been granted furlough from this prison in the month of Aban of the current year and returned to Yazd Prison after some time.

Rostam Arkia was arrested on the 11th of Dey 1385 by security forces in Tehran and transferred to the IRGC Intelligence Detention Center in Urmia.

On the 5th of Azar 1387, this political prisoner was sentenced to death by the Revolutionary Court of Khoy County, presided over by Judge Nowruzi, on charges of moharebeh through cooperation with one of the opposition parties to the system. Following an appeal in Bahman 1388, this verdict was reduced to 10 years imprisonment with exile to Yazd Prison in the appeals court.

However, the Urmia Prosecutor’s representative objected to this verdict and demanded its enhancement, and as a result, on the 27th of Esfand 1388, the sentence was increased from 10 years to 20 years imprisonment.

Mr. Arkia, who was deprived of the right to legal representation throughout the legal proceedings, was exiled to Yazd Prison in Khordad 1389.
