A Baha’i Citizen in Iran Sentenced to Six Years in Prison

Moein Mohammadi, a Baha’i citizen residing in Yazd, has been sentenced to six years in prison.

According to a report by the Campaign to Defend Political and Civil Prisoners, Moein Mohammadi, who was arrested on December 19 of last year by Ministry of Intelligence officers while leaving his home on the way to work, was sentenced to six years in prison by the Yazd Revolutionary Court.

According to the report, security officers searched the home of Mr. Mohammadi’s father after his arrest and confiscated a number of personal belongings including a laptop, mobile phone, and personal books, which they took with them.

In a section of the world human rights situation report for 2018 released by the U.S. State Department, human rights violations in Iran were also mentioned, stating that religious minorities, including Baha’is, face increased pressure and threats.
