Nazanin Zaghari Returns to Evin Prison

Nazanin Zaghari, a British-Iranian citizen, returned to Evin Prison after a three-day temporary leave.

The British newspaper The Guardian reported on Sunday, September 4, citing Richard Ratcliffe, Mrs. Zaghari’s husband, that the Iranian government did not approve a request to extend Nazanin Zaghari’s temporary leave.

According to Richard Ratcliffe, Mrs. Zaghari’s lawyer, efforts were made to extend Nazanin Zaghari’s three-day leave, but were unsuccessful.

Nazanin Zaghari was released from prison on Thursday for three days and reunited with her family in the outskirts of Tehran.

The head of Amnesty International’s office in Britain described developments surrounding Nazanin Zaghari’s leave as regrettable and distressing.

The Revolutionary Court of the Islamic Republic has sentenced Nazanin Zaghari to five years imprisonment on charges of acting against national security and journalism training. Mrs. Zaghari denies these charges.
