Attack on American Newspaper Office Leaves Several Dead

At least five people were killed in a shooting at the “Capital Gazette” newspaper office in Maryland, United States. The attack apparently was carried out by a single person and the motive of the attacker remains unclear.
American police say that apparently one person was responsible for the attack on the “Capital Gazette” newspaper office in Maryland, United States. The attacker has been arrested and interrogations are underway.
According to a police spokesman, in this shooting that occurred on Thursday afternoon, June 28 (July 7 in Iranian calendar) at local time, several people were wounded. One member of the editorial staff of the newspaper wrote on Twitter: “A gunman came to my office and opened fire on several people. Some people have been killed.”
Eyewitnesses say that employees of the newspaper took shelter under desks to avoid being targeted. Police responded quickly and managed to reach the scene within 60 seconds.
The newspaper’s office is located in Annapolis, about 50 kilometers from Washington, the capital of the United States. Annapolis is the capital of Maryland state.
Extensive Lockdown of Surrounding Areas
“Capital Gazette” is one of America’s oldest newspapers. Police evacuated the newspaper’s office building following the attack and asked people present around the building to leave the area. Police have blocked roads in a wide radius around the area. The motive for this attack remains unclear.
Larry Hogan, the governor of Maryland, wrote on Twitter that he was shocked by the incident: “I am completely stunned by the tragic event that occurred in Annapolis.” He urged the people of the city to follow all recommendations from relevant authorities in this regard.
