Amnesty International Calls for Release of Detainees from Qaleh Babak Gathering

Amnesty International has issued a statement calling on the authorities of the Islamic Republic of Iran to unconditionally release Ibrahim Nouri, a Turkic Azerbaijani activist, and other activists who were detained during cultural gatherings of the Turkic Azerbaijani minority.

Nouri, an activist from Ahar, was arrested during the Qaleh Babak gathering and transferred to Ward 209 of Evin Prison.

According to the statement, approximately 120 people have been arrested in recent weeks in connection with two separate gatherings, one in June and another in August.

Amnesty International states that these activists were merely exercising their right to freedom of expression and the right to peaceful assembly and gathering.

The statement also mentions Abbas Lesani, Kiumars Eslami, Jafar Rostamiraad, Hamid Adib, Mohammad and Maysam Joulani, Tohid Amin Amiri, Ali Vasegh, Rahim Golami, Saeid Sadeghi Far, Morteza Parvin, Hojat Fekri, Ghalam Qoli Zadeh, and Mehdi Hoshmand as individuals who have been subjected to insults and mistreatment.
