Truck Drivers and Drivers Strike in Several Iranian Provinces

Reports and images sent to Voice of America and images published on social networks indicate that a group of Iranian truck drivers and drivers have gone on strike in protest of their occupational grievances.

Based on these reports and images, truck drivers and drivers in some provinces, including Razavi Khorasan, Hormozgan, Fars, Lorestan, Kerman, Isfahan, Qazvin, on Tuesday, the first day of Khordad month, refrained from hauling cargo and demanded the resolution of their problems.

According to some news websites, truck drivers are protesting the increase in insurance prices, highway tolls, high freight commissions, high repair costs and high prices of vehicle spare parts, despite fixed freight rates remaining unchanged.

The traditional approach in the freight transport market and the method of cargo announcement has reduced freight rates and created conditions for the presence of brokers and profiteers.

Strikes by workers and various trades in Iran have increased in recent months.

In late Farvardin of this year, traders and economic activists in border markets in western Iran also went on strike in protest of new restrictions on the entry of goods into border markets and the closure of some border crossings.
