Echoes of Revolutionary Guard Coup Rumors Reach Ears

Susan.S, FCN News Agency: The possibility of a coup by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has long instilled fear in the hearts of many Iranian patriots. With America’s withdrawal from the JCPOA and the return of sanctions, this possibility has grown stronger. This is because there is no hope that the leaders of the Islamic Republic will abide by human rights laws to protect the interests of the people and abandon support for terrorist movements and groups.

However, with the explicit statement of Khamenei’s assistant that the country would be better governed without a government, alarm bells have sounded regarding the strengthening of the possibility of a coup in the country.

Safavi, the former commander of the Revolutionary Guard Corps who serves as Khamenei’s military advisor, stated yesterday at a meeting in Shiraz, explicitly announcing: “Now we are facing problems in governing the country. The government has gone the wrong way. What is the fault of His Excellency? The people have chosen this government.”

This military advisor to the supreme leader in Iran, who also holds behind-the-scenes power in the Revolutionary Guard Corps, by expressing this viewpoint placed all responsibility on the shoulders of the government and people who, according to him, made a wrong choice. In a sense, these statements questioned the electoral capacity of the people. This could be a suitable justification for seizing power by those approved by the behind-the-scenes powers in Iran. It does not matter whether this transfer of power is accompanied by force and popular opposition.

Of course, there is no doubt that the actual power at the helm of the regime has so far been in the hands of these same behind-the-scenes players, but making this public will expose the country to serious open disruptions and plunder.

According to FCN News Agency, some Iranians outside the country are concerned that even some protest movements may be tools in the hands of the Revolutionary Guard Corps. Several of them, in conversations with FCN News Agency, expressed hope that people would enter the arena with full awareness to pursue their demands and would not unwittingly and unknowingly become instruments in the hands of potential coup plotters.
