Truck Driven into Stockholm Store Leaves Several Dead

Swedish police said a truck was driven into a store in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden, and at least 4 people were killed in the incident. Several others were injured in the attack.
Swedish police say they have arrested two people following this attack.
Police announced Friday night that the first person was arrested in the northern suburbs of the city after CCTV footage of him was released.
The truck driver fled the scene Friday after driving into a busy street in the city center.
Following the attack, border controls were tightened at the request of the Prime Minister.
Police released images of the man wearing a hooded jacket early Friday afternoon and confirmed that a person matching his description was arrested in the Masthta area.
Jan Onskesson, a police spokesman, referring to the arrest made in Masthta, said: “We investigated several people this afternoon… and recently arrested one person who is of great interest to us.”
A second person was arrested in Julesta in the northwest of Stockholm, who according to police is connected to the man arrested in Masthta.
Swedish intelligence agency has described the incident as a deliberate act.
Sweden’s Prime Minister also said the country was targeted in the attack and evidence suggests a “terrorist” act was committed.
Den Eliasson, head of Swedish police, told reporters that we have had no contact with the truck driver.
Meanwhile, another police officer showed journalists photos of a man wearing a white shirt with a black hooded jacket and green military coat over it. In the police images, the man also had dark stubble.
Following the attack, Stockholm Metro was closed and police asked people to leave the city center.
The incident occurred on one of the main streets where pedestrians pass, and police have currently cordoned off part of the city center.
The company that owns the truck said the vehicle was stolen early this morning.
According to reports, thick smoke rose from the scene of the incident after the attack.
Frank Gardner, BBC security correspondent, cited security sources saying gunfire was heard from another part of Stockholm.
It is not yet clear whether these two incidents are related or not.
Video images show an area cordoned off by police with ambulances at the scene of the incident.
The sound of helicopters patrolling the center of Stockholm can be heard.
Eyewitnesses told local media that they saw a truck driven toward the windows of a store and then saw people on the ground.
One eyewitness who works in the store said: “It’s confusing. I don’t know how many people were injured. Many are in shock.”
