German Police Arrest a 17-Year-Old “Jihadist Youth”

Brandenburg police in Germany arrested a 17-year-old Syrian youth. According to police, the Syrian youth intended to join jihadist groups and had planned a suicide attack in Berlin, the capital of Germany.
Karl Heinz Schröter, Interior Minister of Brandenburg State (May 30 / June 9), announced that a 17-year-old Syrian youth who intended to carry out a suicide attack in Berlin has been arrested.
Schröter also stated that information about this suspect teenager was obtained from other states in Germany.
Security and intelligence authorities obtained information indicating that the Syrian youth had joined a “WhatsApp” group and had said goodbye to his mother. He informed his mother that he intended to go to “jihad.”
Police officials in Potsdam say that the origin and background of this youth, who identified himself as Syrian, are not entirely clear. The detained individual illegally entered Germany in 2015 as an unaccompanied minor refugee.
Since 2016, this refugee has been living in a facility designated for unaccompanied minors who came to Germany without guardians in “Uckermark,” Germany.
German authorities have not yet provided details about this youth’s potential suicide attack and it is still unclear how he intended to carry out his plan.
