Iranian Users React to Activation of Starlink Satellite Internet for Ukraine

Following a request from a Ukrainian government official to provide internet access to the country from American company SpaceX, Elon Musk, the founder of the company, announced that he has activated Starlink satellite internet for Ukraine.
Elon Musk’s response to this request also resonated widely in Persian Twitter space, and some users, referring to the Iranian parliament and government’s plans to restrict internet, complained to him about why he did not provide such capability for Iran.
Mohammadjavad Azari Jahromi, former Iranian minister of communications, also alluded to Starlink’s launch in Ukraine, writing sarcastically in a Telegram message addressing parliament representatives: “If you do not provide suitable service (of course suitable from the people’s perspective) for them, others will.”
Yesterday, Mykhailo Fedorov, First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine, wrote in a tweet to Elon Musk that Russia is attacking Ukrainian civilians with missiles and wants to occupy the country, and in these circumstances “we ask you to make Starlink stations available to Ukraine.”
Elon Musk’s response to this request was positive, and he replied that Starlink service has been activated for Ukraine and more equipment is on the way. According to reports, this measure is a precautionary and counteractive solution to Russia’s attacks on Ukraine’s telecommunications and communications infrastructure and cutting off internet in the country.
American company SpaceX, owned by Elon Musk, has launched more than 1,600 satellites into a network called Starlink with the aim of providing internet access to most points on Earth, and has also received permission to launch 12,000 additional satellites.
