Relief and Aid Provided to 211 Cities and Villages Affected by Iran’s Floods

The deputy head of Iran’s Red Crescent Society’s Relief and Rescue Organization announced that relief aid has been provided to 211 cities and villages in 11 flood-affected provinces, while noting that an eight-year-old child was killed in Khaf city in Razavi Khorasan Province and a motorcyclist is missing in Hormozgan Province as a result of the floods.

Shahin Fathi, deputy head of the Red Crescent, announced on Thursday, the 28th of Bahman, that relief aid has been provided to 211 cities, villages, and nomadic areas in Isfahan, Ilam, Fars, Tehran, Razavi Khorasan and North Khorasan, Khuzestan, Bushehr, Kerman, Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad, and Hormozgan provinces.

According to Mr. Fathi, emergency relief services were provided to 23,500 people in these areas, 1,500 people were given “emergency shelter,” and 11 victims were rescued in the Qir and Karzin, Emamzadeh Ghasem, and Bandar Abbas areas.

 

He also announced that an eight-year-old girl in the Khaf area of Razavi Khorasan Province lost her life and a motorcyclist went missing in the Bastak area of Hormozgan Province.

Mr. Fathi reported the death of an eight-year-old girl in the flood disaster, while Mohammad Afshar Moghaddam, deputy head of relief and rescue at Khaf’s Red Crescent, announced that an eight-year-old boy was killed in Sayadabad village in this city.

According to Mr. Afshar Moghaddam, the flood carried the child approximately five kilometers away, and his body was retrieved from the water by a citizen before rescue teams arrived.

Morteza Salimi, head of the Red Crescent Society’s Relief and Rescue Organization, said on Wednesday that 22 provinces of Iran have been affected by floods and waterlogging since the 23rd of Bahman, with relief aid provided to 15,200 people and 2,633 people receiving “emergency shelter.”

Iran’s National Flood Management Headquarters had previously announced that eight provinces would experience flooding from Monday through Friday.

On the 15th of Bahman, heavy snowfall in 18 Iranian provinces caused road closures and flight cancellations in a number of provinces and power outages in Gilan Province, with three people killed by avalanches in Abelkuh city near Tehran.

A week prior to this, flooding in six Iranian provinces resulted in extensive damage, including the destruction of bridges, roads, water and electricity facilities, as well as the destruction of 850 homes in Sistan and Baluchestan Province and the death of a 60-year-old woman.

In recent days, rainfall and dust storms have caused power cuts and subsequently water and telephone cuts in Ahvaz city.

On the 8th of Bahman, following the occurrence of dust storms in ten cities in Khuzestan Province, electricity, water, and internet services in Ahvaz were cut off and government offices and schools in the city were closed.
