Hundreds of Tons of Free Food Sent to Karbala

FCN News Agency: According to the latest assessments by Iran’s Statistical Center, during the years 2004-2013, food poverty in cities increased sevenfold and in rural areas eightfold. Social and economic experts interpret these statistics as indicative of increased poverty levels in society and believe that poverty indicators in Iran have not yet improved.

According to the same statistics, the unemployment rate in Iran is also following an upward trend. According to the Statistical Center’s report, the unemployment rate last summer reached 12.7 percent, showing an increase of 1.8 percent compared to last summer.

 

Meanwhile, Hossein Mahjaran, head of the Fruit and Vegetable Sellers’ Union, announced the dispatch of hundreds of tons of free fruits and vegetables to Karbala on the occasion of Arbaeen Hussaini and said: “Currently, the domestic fruit market is stagnant and it does not seem likely that we will face any significant price increases in the coming months.”n
According to him, the shipments include rice, tomatoes, and various fruits and vegetables.
