US: We will raise Iran’s missile test at Security Council on Monday

The United States will raise the issue of Iran’s recent missile tests in next week’s session of the UN Security Council.

Samantha Power, the US representative at the UN headquarters in New York, stated in a statement that we will raise the issue of these dangerous tests in the Security Council session, which is being held at the request of the United States, and we will consult with members about it.

Power added: These launches demonstrate that it is necessary to cooperate with our partners around the world to calm and weaken Iran’s missile program.

The US representative to the United Nations added that Iranian military officials have repeatedly emphasized that these missiles were built to destroy Israel. We condemn this clear threat against a UN member state and one of our closest allies.”

Last week, Iran tested multiple ballistic missiles as part of an exercise. The exercise was conducted by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, and on the last day of the exercise, two ballistic missiles were fired.

Under UN sanctions, Iran is prohibited from testing ballistic missiles because these missiles have the capability to carry nuclear warheads. However, Iranian officials say the purpose of these tests is to assess Iran’s defensive capabilities.

This is the third Iranian missile test since the Iran nuclear deal with the P5+1 countries. In previous occasions, it was said that these tests could violate the nuclear agreement, but so far no serious action has been taken against Iran, and the Islamic Republic also claims that missile tests are its natural right.

In recent years, Western countries have accused Iran of intending to threaten Israel through testing long-range missiles.

However, the FARS news agency reported that one of these two missiles had a famous phrase of Ayatollah Khomeini written in Hebrew inscribed on it, which states “Israel must be wiped off the map.”

Earlier, some analysts told Voice of America that the ballistic missile test, especially with a slogan on it, is intended to weaken the position of Hassan Rouhani rather than being a threat to Israel. However, so far few Western countries have reacted to Iran’s missile test.

Nevertheless, Mohammad Javad Zarif said on Wednesday that Iran’s missile test is not in contradiction with UN resolutions and the Iran nuclear deal with the P5+1 countries.
