Christian Activists for Free Iran: Indictment Against Reza Pahlavi is Political

The issuance of an indictment against Prince Reza Pahlavi on charges including “corruption on earth” and “directing terrorist acts” has provoked a sharp reaction from the organization “Christian Activists for Free Iran.” This coalition, composed of clergy, church leaders, and Christian activists from various countries, has characterized the Tehran prosecutor’s action not as a legal proceeding, but as part of the Islamic Republic’s policy to silence the voices of opponents. The group has called on the United Nations and international bodies to prevent the continued political misuse of Iran’s judicial apparatus by documenting this case and pursuing legal action against those responsible for human rights violations.

While the Tehran prosecutor’s office has stated that Prince Reza Pahlavi’s case was completed after being filed in the special international affairs prosecutor’s office and was sent to court based on security agencies’ reports, human rights organizations and independent media have assessed this action as part of the ongoing process of using security charges against government critics and opponents. According to statements by Islamic Republic judicial officials, charges including “corruption on earth,” “cooperation with hostile states,” “espionage,” “directing terrorist acts,” “incitement to rebellion,” and “propaganda activities against the system” have been raised in this indictment.

The organization “Christian Activists for Free Iran” in its statement described this case as “a political action and part of the Islamic Republic’s systematic policy in suppressing political leaders and opponents,” emphasizing that the misuse of the judicial apparatus and violation of fundamental rights of the Iranian people cannot replace justice.

This organization, whose members include clergy, church servants, and leaders of Christian organizations from various countries, believes that the use of the judiciary to handle cases with political motivations is a sign of the judicial apparatus’s lack of independence and its transformation into a tool for eliminating critics and creating an atmosphere of intimidation in society.

The statement further notes that instead of being accountable for the killing of protesters, widespread arrests, torture, executions, and pressure on religious and ethnic minorities, the Islamic Republic is attempting to divert public opinion from the human rights crisis in Iran by forming security cases against opponents.

Christian Activists for Free Iran, based on principles of fair trial and international commitments in the field of human rights, have emphasized that Iran’s political future will be determined solely through the free will of the people and holding free, fair, and democratic elections, not through politically motivated judicial prosecutions.

In conclusion, the organization has called on the United Nations, democratic governments, and international bodies to, while condemning this action, use existing legal mechanisms to conduct independent investigations, document human rights violations, and impose targeted sanctions against officials involved in the misuse of Iran’s judicial apparatus. The statement also emphasizes solidarity with Prince Reza Pahlavi, political and conscience prisoners, religious minorities, families of those killed in protests, and all victims of human rights violations in Iran.
