Release of 3 teachers' union activists detained in Fars

On Wednesday, July 5, Mohammad Alishundi, Asghar Amirzadegan, and Hamid Abbasi, three members of the Fars Teachers' Union, were released. These union activists had been arrested during a teachers' and educators' rally in Fars on May 12.

According to HRANA news agency, citing the channel of the Coordination Council of Iranian Teachers' Unions, on Wednesday, July 5, 1402, three members of the Fars Teachers' Union were released.

According to this report, the identities of these citizens are Mohammad Alishundi, Asghar Amirzadegan, and Hamid Abbasi.

These three union activists were arrested in Fars on Thursday, May 12, during a nationwide rally of working and retired teachers and educators. There is no information available on the conditions of this citizen's release.

HRANA had previously published a report summarizing the teachers' protests and the arrests of teachers' union activists in various cities over the past two months.

The protesting teachers stated their demands as "full implementation of the law on the ranking of working educators and the law on equalizing pensioners' rights", "formalization of temporary employment forces, educational service forces, movement educators, and preschool teachers", "payment of end-of-service bonuses for educators in 1400", "improvement of the livelihoods of service forces", "implementation of Article 30 of the Constitution", "release of imprisoned teachers", "free and quality education for students", "payment of student insurance", and also "establishment of classrooms with a maximum capacity of 16 students".

Following the arrest of dozens of trade union activists during this nationwide rally, the UN Secretary-General expressed concern in a report on 13 areas regarding various types of human rights violations in Iran and called for the release of citizens, including teachers, who have been arrested for exercising their right to freedom of expression and participating in peaceful demonstrations.
