Ebrahim Raisi ordered the construction of "eight" passenger planes

Following a visit by President Ebrahim Raisi to the Iranian Aircraft Industries Company (HESA), a member of the presidium of the Islamic Consultative Assembly announced that the president had ordered the construction of eight passenger aircraft.

According to Hamshahri Online, Hossein Ali Haji Deligani said on Thursday, June 16, at a meeting of the joint administrative council of Shahinshahr and Meimeh with the city of Barkhar: "During his visit to HESA, the President ordered that eight passenger aircraft be produced in this organization by the time of his next visit to Isfahan."

Fars News Agency also quoted Ebrahim Raisi as saying that he had ordered the construction of a passenger plane to the Hesa company.

This order was given while HESA's only experience in the field of passenger aircraft is assembling Ukrainian Antonov aircraft, and the organization's other activities are in the field of fighter jets and drones.

Iran is unable to buy passenger aircraft and equipment on international markets due to sanctions, and its aircraft fleet is severely worn out. These sanctions were lifted with the JCPOA, but were reimposed by the Trump administration, canceling initial agreements to buy aircraft from companies such as Airbus and Boeing.

Alireza Barkhour, vice chairman of the board of directors of the Iranian Airlines Association, announced last year that more than 50 percent of the country's existing aircraft are grounded due to a lack of parts, especially engines.
