Europe announces readiness to activate the trigger mechanism

European countries announced their readiness to activate the trigger mechanism against Iran.

Yesterday, Friday, July 25, a meeting was held in Istanbul, Turkey, for the purpose of nuclear talks between Germany, Britain, and France, but no results were achieved from these talks. The European troika also announced that if Iran does not fulfill its nuclear commitments, the trigger mechanism will be activated.

Britain, France, and Germany issued a threatening message last night, July 25, equivalent to August 25, saying: "If Iran does not fulfill certain commitments regarding its nuclear program, we are ready to activate the automatic resumption mechanism of sanctions."

The German Foreign Ministry also published a joint text of the European Union countries on the X social network, writing: "The European Troika is ready to activate the automatic return mechanism of sanctions (snapback), but if Iran fulfills its legal obligations and meets certain criteria, the deadline for the return of international sanctions will be extended. Iran must choose the path of diplomacy."

The JCPOA member states also demanded information about the fate of 400 kilograms of highly enriched uranium and called for the International Atomic Energy Agency to begin inspections of Iran's nuclear program. The reason for their request to clarify the status of the highly enriched uranium is that since the US attack on Iran's nuclear facilities, there has been no information about the storage location of this material, and the Islamic Republic has not yet provided any information about the disappearance or transfer of the enriched uranium.

Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, also expressed hope that the agency's inspectors will return to Iran by the end of this year, saying: "It is important that we now discuss with Tehran the details of the resumption of inspections. Iran must be transparent about its nuclear program."

Grossi also added at yesterday's meeting: "The Islamic Republic has always been non-transparent about its nuclear program in the past and has in some cases violated the provisions of the NPT."

Despite statements by the JCPOA member states that yesterday's talks on Iran's nuclear program were inconclusive and the threat of activating the trigger mechanism, Majid Takht-Ravanchi and Kazem Gharibabadi, deputy foreign ministers of the Islamic Republic, stated after the end of the talks, without commenting on the request of the aforementioned countries, "The European parties have agreed that the talks will continue."
