Explosion and fire in Mahshahr Special Economic Zone, two injured

Two people were burned in a fire at a company located in the Mahshahr Special Economic Zone. The cause of the incident is not yet known. Last month, an apparently deliberate fire broke out in the parking lot of another facility in the area.
According to Iranian news sources, on Friday morning, April 12, after an explosion was heard, part of the Kavoshgaran Company's facilities in the Mahshahr Special Economic Zone caught fire.
Mehr News Agency quoted Mohsen Adibi, spokesman for the Petrochemical Special Economic Zone's emergency situation, as saying that the fire was completely contained about an hour after it broke out.
Adibi told Mehr: "Relief teams from other companies located in the Petrochemical Special Economic Zone participated in the firefighting operation."
As a result of this incident, two workers from the operations unit of the Mahshahr Port Explorers Company suffered burns, one of whom was taken to the hospital due to the severity of his burns.
According to Mohsen Adibi, the cause of the fire is still unknown and experts from the Mahshahr Special Economic Zone Organization are investigating it.
Mehr News Agency, citing some local media, wrote on Friday morning that "a terrible sound was heard at one of the sites of the Bandar Mahshahr Special Petrochemical Zone, followed by smoke from a fire rising into the air."
An arson attack in a special area
Fires in the Bandar Mahshahr Special Economic Zone are not uncommon. Last month, a massive fire broke out in the parking lot of another petrochemical company in the area, burning 11 cars.
Three days ago, ISNA news agency reported that the fire in the parking lot of the Rahavaran Fenun Petrochemical Company was intentional and that "members of a five-member gang" were responsible, citing Brigadier General Mohammad Salehi, commander of the Khuzestan Police Force.
Salehi said the defendants have confessed to their involvement in the fire and that "weapons, illegal ammunition, and significant amounts of stolen company property" were discovered in their hideouts.
