Death Toll Increases from Tidal Surge on Bushehr Coasts

One day after a tidal surge in parts of the Bushehr Province coastline, a local official announced the discovery of the second body of those missing in the incident.
According to IRNA news agency, Namdar Darvishi, Deputy Governor of Dayr, announced on Monday, 30 Esfand, that the rescue ship of the Maritime Navigation Department found the body of a 9-year-old child who had gone missing during the seiche and flooding phenomenon in Dayr city in coastal waters.
Mr. Darvishi said that with the discovery of this body, the death toll from the tidal surge incident reached two people. He added that the fate of four other missing persons remains unclear, but diving teams and fisheries vessels are conducting search and rescue operations to find any trace of them.
The occurrence of the rare natural phenomenon of seiche, which resulted in high waves and flooding in parts of Bushehr Province including the ports of Dayr, Assalouyeh, and Nakhl Taghi, in addition to leaving several injured and missing persons and two dead, also caused damage to buildings and boats.
This incident occurred while southern cities, including coastal cities of Bushehr Province, were preparing to welcome Nowruz holiday travelers.
Local officials announced that some of those missing were Nowruz holiday travelers. The Governor of Assalouyeh also stated that the incident led to the overturning of several vehicles and the flooding of tents of travelers camped on the beach.
