Robert Malley criticizes Nasrin Sotoudeh's continued imprisonment in Iran

On Sunday, June 13, US Special Representative for Iran Robert Malley tweeted about Nasrin Sotoudeh, a lawyer and human rights activist imprisoned in Iran, stating that Ms. Sotoudeh should not spend even a day in prison.
Mr. Mali wrote in his tweet: “Three years have passed since Nasrin Sotoudeh was sentenced to 38.5 years in prison and 148 lashes for defending women’s rights in Iran. From inside prison, Sotoudeh continues to advocate for the humane treatment of political prisoners. She should not spend even a day in prison.”
Nasrin Sotoudeh has been sentenced to a long term in prison by the Islamic Republic's judiciary for her defense of political prisoners on charges such as "gathering and colluding against national security, spreading lies, and disturbing public opinion."
On Friday, June 11, Robert Malley tweeted, expressing his condolences over the death of Sasan Niknafs in Tehran's Greater Prison, writing that he, a 36-year-old father of two, was unjustly imprisoned for expressing his opinions on social media and was cruelly denied sick leave.
