“Tehran hands over black boxes of Ukrainian plane”

A news agency and the Ukrainian ambassador to Canada wrote that the Islamic Republic has agreed to hand over to Ukraine the black boxes of the Ukrainian passenger plane that was shot down by missiles from the Revolutionary Guard Corps.

Reuters reported on Wednesday evening, March 11, citing two informed sources, that the Iranian government has promised the International Civil Aviation Organization, an affiliate of the United Nations, that it will hand over the black boxes of the Ukrainian plane to the Ukrainian authorities within the next two weeks.

A Ukrainian Airlines Boeing 737, which was leaving Tehran for Kiev on the morning of January 8, 2020, was shot down by missiles from Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps near the new city of Parand in Tehran. All 176 passengers and crew on board were killed.

A Reuters report quoted a source as saying that there is also a possibility that the black boxes will be sent to France.

Approval from the Ukrainian Ambassador to Canada

Andriy Shevchenko, Ukraine's ambassador to Canada, also tweeted that Farhad Parvaresh, Iran's representative to the International Civil Aviation Organization, said that Iran would deliver the boxes to Ukraine and, if additional expert examination is needed, would also send the boxes to France.

"We expect and ask Iran to give us access to the black boxes without further delay," Canadian Foreign Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne said at a press conference with his Ukrainian counterpart in Kiev last Wednesday (March 5).
