Two-year prison sentence for a doctor accused of writing about the Islamic Republic as "Shah" and "Johnny"

"Iman Dastyar," a physician at Yasouj, was sentenced to two years in prison on charges of writing about the "Shah" and calling the Islamic Republic "a murderer."

“Iman Dastyar,” a doctor from Yasuj, was sentenced to two years in prison and banned from leaving the country on charges of “spreading lies with the intention of disturbing public opinion” for comments she made on her Instagram account. This sentence was issued to Iman Dastyar by Branch 110 of Yasuj Criminal Court No. 2. According to judicial authorities, the content published by this young doctor was found to be “untrue and false” and “with the intention of disturbing public opinion.”

The phrases published on Iman Dastyar's Instagram page and included in the text of the verdict are "presence in the elections means the continued presence of murderers," "Tomorrow the voice of the Shah will be broadcast on television," and "murderous and violator of rights," referring to the Islamic Republic. All of these cases are listed under the headings of "disturbing the public mind" and "strengthening the people's sense of hatred and resentment toward the government."

The verdict issued by Branch 110 of Yasuj Criminal Court No. 2 against Iman Dastyar stated that she should serve two years of imprisonment as the main punishment and be banned from leaving the country for 18 months as an additional punishment. The verdict further states that "given her youth and lack of a history of effective criminal convictions," the aforementioned verdict will be suspended for two years, and this verdict has a deadline of 20 days from the date of notification to appeal to the Kohgiluyeh and Boyer Ahmad Provincial Court of Appeal.

In addition, the court ruling states that the words used by Iman Dastyar go beyond the limits of citizens' right to criticize the government.
