The poverty line in Iran has grown by about "38 percent" in 2020.

Iran's Ministry of Cooperatives, Labor and Social Welfare published a report announcing that the "poverty line" in Iran had increased by "38 percent" in 2020 compared to the previous year.

The poverty line is the minimum necessary monthly expenses for each person to meet basic needs.

According to the August 21 issue of the "Economic World" newspaper, based on a report by the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare, one-third of Iran's population - about 26 million and 500 thousand people - were below the "poverty line" in 2019.

According to this report, rising inflation in the food and beverage sector and rising housing costs are among the main reasons for the rise in the "poverty line" in Iran.
