Tehran prosecutor announces crackdown on modeling

Tehran Prosecutor Abbas Jafari Dowlatabadi announced a program to combat modeling agencies and said that two cases in this regard have been opened at the Computer Crimes Prosecutor's Office.

According to Iranian media reports, Mr. Dowlatabadi said that a number of people have been arrested in connection with these cases, adding: “Over the past two years, in the fight against hair salons and modeling-related salons, about 50 hair salons, 50 salons, and 50 photography studios have come under the surveillance of the intelligence and judicial branches, and good arrests have been made and many pages have been closed.”

According to Mr. Dowlatabadi, today in cyberspace we are witnessing "a significant increase or even the development and promotion of vulgar and pornographic networks, which pose a serious danger to families."

The Tehran prosecutor emphasized that “there is information surveillance on Instagram and Facebook.”

Elham Arab, an Iranian model who appeared on the Ramadan-related honeymoon program on Iranian state television last year, was one of the people who attended a meeting with Mr. Dowlatabadi today and said about her activities as a model: “The average income of a model is about 10 million tomans. Models are promoted and made famous on Instagram by makeup artists and photographers.”

Iranian television broadcast part of Ms. Arab's speech.

A number of salons and hair salons in Iran use social media to advertise the services they offer to their customers.
