Hundreds of Iranian-Iranian experts request: The name of the IRGC should not be removed from the terrorist list

More than five hundred Iranian-American experts urged Joe Biden to keep the Revolutionary Guard Corps on the list of terrorist groups.

These individuals, whom the Washington Times described as Iranian-American "scientists, researchers, and industrial managers" in the United States, made this request in a letter to Biden on Tuesday, April 13.

They have written to the US President that removing the IRGC from the list of foreign terrorist organizations is "against the will and interests of the Iranian people" and "would be a direct threat to the advancement of democracy."

The signatories of the letter added that "the IRGC is a tool for terrorism abroad and repression of people on the streets of Iran, protects the religious dictatorship in Iran, and continues to hinder the improvement of the human rights situation in Iran."

The People's Mojahedin of Iran Organization also wrote about this news on Tuesday, April 13, stating that many of the signatories of this letter are members and supporters of this organization.

The request to remove the IRGC from the terrorist lists has been met with serious and public opposition from Israel, and opposition is also increasing in the United States.

On Monday, April 12, 14 Republican senators in Congress warned the Joe Biden administration about the consequences of possibly removing the Revolutionary Guard Corps from the US list of terrorist groups.

Calling this possible removal "incorrect," they emphasized that the Revolutionary Guards "have not shown any meaningful change in their performance."

Reports indicate that the Iranian government has insisted on the removal of the Revolutionary Guard Corps from the US terrorist list as a condition of the agreement, and in return, the US government says that the removal of the Corps is conditional on Iran making a public commitment not to attack American forces and closing the case of revenge for Qassem Soleimani.

The Islamic Republic's request to remove the IRGC from the US terrorist list is reported to be one of the main reasons for the interruption in the year-long Vienna talks.

The West and Iran have been negotiating for months to revive the nuclear deal known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), but despite statements from officials on both sides that an agreement is "close," this has not yet been achieved.

Former US President Donald Trump withdrew from the deal in 2018 and reimposed sanctions on Iran's nuclear program that had been lifted as part of the Obama-era deal.

Ali Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic, expressed satisfaction with the "resistance" against what he called the "excessiveness" of the other side in the nuclear negotiations and called for the continuation of this process.
