Sepideh Qolyan re-arrested hours after release

Sepideh Qolyan, born in 1973, is a veterinary graduate and law student, civil activist, and political prisoner from Iran. She was present during the 2018 protests to defend the rights of workers at the Haft Tappeh Sugarcane Cultivation and Industry Company. She was released from prison yesterday, Wednesday, March 14, after serving 4 years and 7 months.

She, who had been transferred from Khuzestan to Evin Prison, Ward 209 for women, bravely and without a hijab, shouted in front of the door of Evin Prison yesterday, "Khamenei, you are a scoundrel, you are being dragged under the ground," in protest.

Immediately after her release, Sepideh posted a text on her Twitter account with the following content: "After four years and seven months, I was released from the Haft Tappeh case. This time, I came out in the hope of freedom for Iran! In the hope of a very soon release, my dear Sepideh Kashani, Niloufar Bayani, Zahra Zetabchi, Bahareh Hedayat, Golrokh Iraei, Nahid Taghavi, and all political prisoners, especially women prisoners."

News published on social media after Sepideh's release indicates that Sepideh was arrested on her way to Khuzestan on the Qom-Arak road by security agents who attacked their car, separated her from her family, and took her away.

Sepideh was not arrested for her forced hijab, nor for protesting the regime's family, but rather for defending the rights of workers at the Haft Tappeh Sugar Company and her civic activism on social media. The Islamic Republic regime, which has always claimed freedom of expression for the people, does not even allow people to defend their rights and expects people to want the regime.

Sepideh's cry, however, reached the ears of the whole world. The Islamic Republic regime also knows that if anything happens to Sepideh, it will face a serious reaction from the people of Iran and outside of Iran. Just as the human rights organization Amnesty International had reacted to her arrest in the past.
