Dozens of environmental organizations criticized water transfer projects in Iran

Nearly 40 environmental organizations across Iran wrote a letter to President Ebrahim Raisi criticizing water transfer projects in the country, especially at the headwaters of the Karun River.

These organizations wrote in their letter that these projects were launched under the guise of the law, bypassing the law, and lacking the necessary legal permits.

According to the "Ab Iran" magazine, the signatories of the letter, referring to the hasty decision to implement the second phase of the 550,000-hectare agricultural project in Khuzestan Province, wrote that this decision was made during Ebrahim Raisi's visit and without considering the source of the project's water supply and the dangerous condition of the province's wetlands.

Among the signatory organizations are the Tasnim Environmental Association, Karun Nature Voice Lovers, Sabzpayan Association, Zagros Green Movement Society, Mountain Watch Association, and the Farmers' House of Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Province.
