Human rights violations in Iran are becoming more violent and are being "legitimized" by the passage of laws against freedom.

Friday, December 19, 1402 – Seventy-three years after the unveiling of the 30-article Universal Declaration of Human Rights at the United Nations, many of the issues addressed in this declaration are being openly violated by the authorities of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Throughout its years of rule, the Islamic Republic of Iran has violated and continues to violate the basic rights of citizens with brutal and inhumane methods and techniques, and despite the continued discrimination among different segments of society, government officials have never been willing to accept their responsibility to protect the rights of citizens and have never been held accountable for human rights violations in Iran.

Hadi Ghaemi, director of the Human Rights Campaign in Iran, said, referring to the Islamic Republic of Iran's dark history of widespread human rights violations: "The rise of more and more human rights violators and their assumption of senior government positions has made the prospect of improving the human rights situation in Iran more worrisome than before."

According to Hadi Ghaemi, "Although the authorities of the Islamic Republic have always sought ways to conceal numerous human rights violations in Iran, the growth and expansion of anti-discrimination movements and the growing strength of the advocacy movement in Iran, as well as the development of social networks, have narrowed the field for concealing the truth."

On the eve of International Human Rights Day (December 10), the Campaign for Human Rights in Iran, while emphasizing the Islamic Republic of Iran’s commitment to complying with the provisions and standards mentioned in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, warns against the increasingly harsh security and judicial treatment of human rights activists and political and conscientious prisoners, as well as the suppression of popular protests. The Campaign for Human Rights in Iran calls on the international community to objectively and comprehensively monitor human rights violations in the Islamic Republic of Iran and to hold the authorities of the Islamic Republic accountable for these human rights violations.

The Iranian government was among those who supported the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948, when it was unveiled. Later, by signing the "International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights" and ratifying it in the National Assembly in 1975, it effectively gave this covenant, which is considered a kind of commitment of countries to the Declaration of Human Rights, the status of law and committed itself to it.

Torture and mistreatment of political and ideological prisoners, the blatant denial of freedom of expression at various stages and in various ways, widespread and systematic discrimination against religious minorities, widespread legal discrimination against women, widespread violations of fair trial, and comprehensive interference in people's privacy are just some of the blatant violations of human rights in Iran, examples of which are imposed on the people by the government every day.

The authorities of the Islamic Republic of Iran have always presented untrue accounts of human rights violations in Iran, and this method, namely concealing the reality and distorting the truth, has been a constant method of the power apparatus in the Islamic Republic of Iran, and to advance it, government and media institutions joined hands to cast a veil of lies over the reality of human rights violations in Iran.

Security and judicial clashes with health advocates, mothers, civil and political activists, and the severe and violent suppression of popular protests in recent months are clear examples of how various human rights violations continue in Iran. Undoubtedly, the intensification of these violations of the rights of Iranian citizens will increase public anger and dissatisfaction, and on the other hand, increase the intensity of repression and security clashes with citizens.

Referring to the numerous cases of human rights violations in Iran, Hadi Ghaemi said, "Various forms of discrimination and violations of the rights of individuals in different strata are not, in fact, only violations of the rights of an individual or group, and the scope of the consequences of discrimination and violence gradually encompasses all members of society. An example of this is the passage of laws that explicitly legitimize violations of citizens' privacy."

Today's Iranian society is witnessing, more than ever before, the emergence of various forms of discrimination and human rights violations in Iran. As popular protests spread and civil rights activists and movements grow louder, more segments of Iranian society will join these movements to voice their grievances.
