Rouhani: They are giving false reports to the leadership; Qalibaf: You made false promises to the people

Hassan Rouhani, President and candidate in the upcoming elections in Iran, accused his opponents of "reporting lies" to the Leader of the Islamic Republic about his government during a speech in Tabriz on Monday, May 15.

On the same day, Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, one of Mr. Rouhani's election rivals, in a speech in Rasht accused Hassan Rouhani of making "false promises" about solving problems in 100 days.

According to the Iranian Broadcasting Corporation, on the same day, Ebrahim Raisi, another presidential candidate, is giving a speech in the mosque in the city of Yasuj, the capital of Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad provinces.

There are four days left until the Iranian presidential election, and candidates can use the remaining time to campaign until Thursday, in addition to some recorded and live programs.

According to the Iranian Labor News Agency, ILNA, Hassan Rouhani said on Monday at the Shahid Poursharifi Sports Complex in Tabriz: "Some people cannot bear to say that our program is eight years old. My brother! Nothing can be done by pumping money. We want there to be no lies in this country, but they still lie."

He added: "They say the government has accepted the 2030 Agenda, while the government says it is implementing Iranian and Islamic culture. They have become so arrogant that they are sending false reports to the leadership."

UNESCO's 2030 Education Agenda emphasizes issues such as environmental education, gender equality and equal social opportunities for women and men, human rights, eliminating discrimination against minorities, and a culture of peace and non-violence. On Sunday, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the leader of the Islamic Republic, considered the implementation of this document to be impermissible and announced that the Islamic Republic will not submit to documents such as UNESCO's 2030 Agenda.

Despite this opposition from the Leader of the Islamic Republic, Hassan Rouhani, a few days later, emphasized adherence to this document "within the framework of Iranian laws and culture."

In another part of his speech in Tabriz on Monday, Hassan Rouhani said: "Why are so many people slandering Rouhani and his government? Why is the Iranian Broadcasting Corporation moving against this government?"

Mr. Rouhani also said, "My request is that every person go to the polls on Friday with 11 people," adding, "Some things could not be done with a 51 percent vote, but a higher vote would be effective."

On Monday, news broke that Mehdi Karroubi, one of the leaders of the 2009 protests, had announced that he would run in the upcoming Iranian presidential election and vote for Hassan Rouhani.

A day earlier, former Iranian President Mohammad Khatami also announced his support for Hassan Rouhani in the presidential elections on May 19 of this year.

Qalibaf: You made a false promise.

According to Tasnim News Agency, Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, a candidate for the 12th presidential election, said on Monday to the Rouhani government: "Four years is not a short time to solve the problems that you are referring to the previous government. You gave the people a false promise of solving the problems in 100 days."

Hassan Rouhani had previously said in response to similar criticism about his promise to solve problems in 100 days: "I said that if I win the election, I will announce the measures of the first 100 days, but some saboteurs said that I stated that I would solve the problems in 100 days. The person who would solve the problems overnight was someone else, not us."

Mr. Qalibaf accused the Rouhani government of "weakness and inefficiency" and said, "Unfortunately, when they don't have a proper answer, they say it was the previous government, which is a sign of the weakness of the current government that is making this statement."

He continued: "Our answer to them is that you were the previous government. When the government's record is not defensible, their excuse is that they say, 'They don't let us work. Who is stopping you from working?' The one who is not letting you work is the same weak management and the aristocratic and businesslike nature of your group."

The conservative candidate added: "When they don't have an acceptable record, they tell people that if this happens, this will happen, and if this government changes, the new government will definitely build walls on the sidewalks. If you say this in front of a cooked chicken, it will laugh."

Sadegh Larijani: Some candidates acted as if they were the opposition to the regime

On Monday, Sadegh Larijani, the head of Iran's judiciary, said: "Unfortunately, some candidates acted as if they were the opposition to the regime and took steps to blacken and question the legal institutions of the regime, which is certainly against national interests."

According to Mizan News Agency, speaking at a meeting of senior judicial officials, he called on people to vote for those who follow the "discourse of the revolution," "not those who might join forces with those who promote vulgarity to garner a few votes."
