Urmia Prison: Failure to address Naib Askari's condition despite his poor physical condition

HRANA News Agency – Naib Askari, a political prisoner imprisoned in Urmia Prison, has been deprived of proper medical care and treatment despite his poor physical conditions.

According to HRANA, the news agency of the Human Rights Activists in Iran, Naeeb Askari, a political prisoner in Urmia Prison, has been deprived of medical care and treatment.

An informed source told HRANA in this regard: “Mr. Askari fainted today after suffering a seizure, and despite other prisoners reporting to the guard and medical officers, no action has been taken by the prison authorities regarding this sick prisoner.”

The informed source also added: “The conditions of political prisoners in Urmia Prison have become much worse than before after their transfer to the security ward on January 10, and prisoners living in this ward are deprived of direct access to healthcare.”

Naib Askari, who was suffering from kidney disease, went on a hunger strike on September 24, 1401, due to the fact that he was not sent to the hospital, despite the diagnosis of the prison doctor, and ended his strike after a while.

Naib Askari was arrested by IRGC intelligence agents in Urmia on April 27 of this year and transferred to one of the security agency's detention centers. He was finally transferred from the IRGC intelligence detention center to the city's prison on June 17, after completing the interrogation process. The charge against Mr. Askari is that of collaborating with one of the opposition parties.

On July 12, he was charged in Branch 1 of the Urmia Public Prosecutor's Office in connection with a case opened with a complaint by Amir Sohrabi, the head of Urmia Prison. He was ultimately sentenced to 3 months in prison and 50 lashes by Branch 119 of the Urmia Two-County Criminal Court on charges including "disturbing prison order."
