Six months in prison for a journalist for asking a question to the Friday prayer imam in Karaj

Mahyar Taghikhani, a journalist from Karaj who was sentenced to six months in prison and a one-year ban on access to Instagram for asking a question to the city's Friday prayer leader, was sent to prison.

Documentary filmmaker Javad Mogoi announced this news on his Instagram page on Thursday, May 19, writing: Six months ago, following the protest of Ayatollah Hosseini Hamedani, the Friday Imam of Karaj, against the son of the head of the Karaj City Council (Javad Chapardar) being seen in a municipal car in the north, Mr. Taghikhani asked on Instagram Live "for example" if the daughter of the Friday Imam did the same thing?

According to him, a few days later, the Karaj prosecutor, based on the request of the Friday Imam's office, filed a complaint against the journalist and sentenced him to six months in prison and a one-year ban from Instagram.

Mr. Mogowi says that a few hours ago, journalist Karaji was sent to prison.

The Friday prayer imam of Karaj is suing this journalist even though he had implicitly deemed him deserving of a "curse" in October last year, in response to the sighting of Mr. Chapardar's son in a municipal vehicle in the north.

After this criticism, Mr. Chapardar apologized for his son's trip to the north in a municipal vehicle.
