The formation of another 18th of Tir in universities

In a message, civil activist Narges Mohammadi warned against the formation of another 18th of Tir in universities.

For some time now, there has been a security atmosphere at universities where many protesting students are treated with extreme violence. In recent days, a video was posted on social media showing a student being hit in the head by a security guard on the steps of a hallway at Allameh Tabatabaei University, indicating extremely violent treatment of a student.

Many students at Tehran University of Art have also been arrested following protests against the mandatory wearing of the veil, and there has been a lot of pressure on students at various universities, especially in dormitories, regarding the type of clothing they wear, even for male students.

Civil activist Narges Mohammadi, who is serving her sentence in Evin Prison, warned in a letter about the formation of another "Tir 18" in universities, given the approaching date of June 18 and the security atmosphere prevailing at universities.

In this letter, while calling for an end to the brutal violence against the university, he wrote: "The atmosphere after the revolutionary movement of Women, Life, Freedom showed that neither passivity nor adaptation to the status quo, but rather the spread of power and the strength of collective will for fundamental change, is the example of the Iranian people."

Ms. Mohammadi warned the government, declaring: "The brutal attack and threat against the university could spark widespread popular uprisings and protests. The protests of students and people across Iran are a powerful and resounding echo of the word 'no' to the theocratic dictatorship."

In this letter, Narges Mohammadi, while referring to the University Quarter riot on July 18, 1999, which was one of the bloodiest student repressions in the history of the Iranian student movement, called on international human rights organizations, international feminist organizations, writers, and academics around the world to prevent the suffering Iranian society from witnessing another July 18 in universities.
