Over the past year, more than 2,600 child laborers were identified in Tehran.

The head of the Tehran Province Social Affairs and Welfare Department announced the identification of 2,630 child laborers in the province last year. According to him, more than 80 percent of these children are foreign nationals.
According to HRANA News Agency, citing the Young Journalists Club, the head of the Tehran Province Social Affairs and Welfare Department announced the identification of 2,630 child laborers in the province last year.
The head of the Social Affairs Department of Tehran Province Welfare said: "In 2013, 2,630 working and street children were identified and recruited in Tehran Province, of which 457 children were housed in the organization's care centers, and 2,173 children received support, education, and rehabilitation services in day centers to eliminate child labor."
Fatemeh Arzanian added: "Of the total number of identified and recruited child laborers, 28 percent are girls and 72 percent are boys."
According to the head of the Tehran Province Social Affairs and Welfare Department, of these identified and recruited children, more than 80 percent are foreign nationals and less than 20 percent are Iranians, and in most cases, the children do not have identity documents.
Previously, the CEO of the Tehran Municipality Welfare, Services, and Social Partnerships Organization had announced that 2,500 child laborers were covered by Tehran Municipality schools.
