European Union: Iran must adhere to its commitment to the JCPOA

The head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran announced the launch of a chain of 30 IR6 centrifuges. In response, the European Union called on the Islamic Republic to adhere to its commitments to the JCPOA.

In response to Iran's new move to launch new centrifuges, Maja Kocianczyk, spokesperson for Federico Mogherini, the European foreign policy coordinator, called on the Islamic Republic to reverse its decision and remain faithful to its commitments to the JCPOA.

He clarified: Iran adhered to the agreement for 14 months after the US withdrew from the JCPOA, and the European Union will maintain its commitment as long as the Islamic Republic remains faithful to its commitments regarding nuclear activities.

A spokesman for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres also encouraged Iran to adhere to its commitments under the nuclear deal, adding that enriching beyond the limits set in the deal would not help Iran economically.

Omid Nouripour, head of foreign policy for the German Green Party, in an interview with the German media outlet "RND" (Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland), called on the European Union to use its power every minute to convince the Iranian side to remain in the JCPOA.

Israel's concerns

Ms. Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer, the leader of the German Christian Social Party, defended the nuclear agreement with Iran during her visit to Israel.

On Monday, November 4, during a security conference in Israel, he said that there is still no better mechanism than the JCPOA to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.

The leader of Germany's Christian Social Party believes that as long as the situation remains like this, this agreement should not be lost through negligence. At the same time, he emphasized: "Israel is concerned about the aggressive expansion of Iranian influence in the region, which is unacceptable, and I share this concern."

On the other hand, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed the issue of the JCPOA at the annual international Christian media conference, stating: "The most important goal is to ensure that Iran does not obtain nuclear weapons."

He added that Israel has stopped Iran from creating an empire and occupying other countries.

The Israeli Prime Minister also praised US President Donald Trump's policies based on maximum economic pressure on Iran, calling them effective.

He said: "Maximum economic pressure on Iran is the right policy, and I am glad that this policy has recently been intensified with further sanctions."

Iran's new move

Ali Akbar Salehi, Vice President and Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, announced that the Islamic Republic has launched a chain of 30 advanced sixth-generation centrifuges, known as IR6, in Natanz.

He said on Monday, November 4, during his visit to the Natanz nuclear facility: "We had not stopped, and if we had, we could not have added more than 2,660 sous to the sous capacity we currently have in operation, which is 6,000 sous, within 2 months. This means that our sous capacity has now reached 8,660 sous, and our uranium production, which was about 450 grams per day before the third step of reducing JCPOA commitments, has now reached more than 5,000 grams."

A "su" is a unit based on which the annual production volume of enriched uranium with a certain percentage of purity is measured.

The International Atomic Energy Agency announced in its report of October 24 that Iran has once again violated the nuclear agreement with the world's major powers by enriching uranium using advanced centrifuges and plans to install other advanced devices of this type.

The Islamic Republic has given the remaining members of the JCPOA, especially European countries, until November 4 to fulfill their "banking and oil commitments" to Tehran and take "practical steps" to facilitate banking transactions and the sale of Iranian oil.

Iranian officials have threatened that otherwise, the Islamic Republic will take its fourth step in reducing its nuclear commitments on November 5, the day after tomorrow.
