Tehran City Council Member: 13,000 people have been buried in Tehran in the past two months

A member of the Tehran City Council announced that 13,000 people have been buried in Tehran in the past two months.
The "East" newspaper also reported on Wednesday, May 10, that after the outbreak of the coronavirus, the Civil Registry Office "in a strange move, is not announcing new death statistics in the country."
Mohammad Javad Haghshenas, a member of the Tehran City Council, announced in an interview with the Wednesday issue of the "Aftab Yazd" newspaper that 13,000 people were buried in Tehran in the months of March and April.
He did not say how many of these people had coronavirus.
This Tehran City Council member said that by comparing the number of people who died this year and the same period last year, we can obtain the number of people who died from the coronavirus.
However, Sharq newspaper reported that the Civil Registration Organization is not announcing new death statistics in the country.
In the first three months of last year, 13,884 people died in Tehran, with an average of 4,628 deaths per month and 9,256 deaths in two months. The difference between the statistics for these two months and those for March 2019 and April 2020 is more than 3,700 people.
Meanwhile, the Sharq newspaper wrote that comparing the number of deaths in the same period in two years is "not helpful" because the number of people who died from other causes has decreased in some cases. According to the report, the number of people killed in accidents has decreased by 40 percent.
Previously, Nahid Khodakarami, a member of Tehran City Council, had announced that between 70 and 100 patients who died from coronavirus were buried in the city every day.
According to the estimate announced by this city council member, between four and seven thousand suspected coronavirus patients have died in Tehran since March of last year.
Mojtaba Yazdani, Deputy Mayor of Tehran Municipality for Urban Services, announced on April 14 that a new section has been prepared in Behesht Zahra for those who died from COVID-19, and so far, 10,000 new graves have been dug in this section.
However, the Ministry of Health has announced the number of deaths in the entire country at around six thousand.
Meanwhile, Sharq newspaper wrote that the Ministry of Health's statistics do not include all cases and deaths, but rather the number of people who have visited medical centers and taken a coronavirus test.
According to this newspaper's report, only 442,590 coronavirus tests have been conducted in Iran.
Previously, some members of parliament and members of the Tehran City Council had accused the Ministry of Health of concealing information about the coronavirus.
