Honor killing: A man was killed in Tehran

A man in Tehran killed his cousin, a young man, in an honor killing. The suspect has now been arrested and a case has been filed against him. Iranian law provides for exemptions from severe punishment for those who commit “honor killings.”

According to HRANA news agency, citing Rokna, a person in Tehran murdered his cousin out of honor.

According to the report, West Tehran police officers were informed of the death of an Afghan national named Hamed in a hospital in Yaftabad and began their investigation. The criminal investigation indicated that Hamed had been stabbed in his home and was taken to the hospital by neighbors. He died an hour later from the severity of his injuries despite the efforts of medical staff.

After visiting the neighborhood and questioning the victim's family, the police team, along with the homicide investigator, learned that Hamed had been stabbed by his cousin at home over honor issues.

Ultimately, the suspect in the murder was arrested in south Tehran and transferred to police headquarters for further investigation.

The defendant confessed to the murder of his cousin during the criminal investigation and said: “Hamed had been bothering my sister on the street for a long time. I warned him, but Hamed continued to bother me. A few days later, I told Hamed to propose to my sister, but he mockingly cursed me. In a moment, I got angry and killed him with a knife. I regret it and did not intend to kill Hamed.”

According to this report, the defendant's case was handed over to the judicial authority.

Iranian law includes provisions to exempt individuals who commit "honor killings" from severe punishment.
