Housing prices in Tehran have increased "20-fold" in the past 10 years

A member of the Majlis' presidium announced on Tuesday, citing official statistics, that "land prices in Tehran have increased, on average, by about 40 times in the past 10 years, and housing prices by about 20 times."

According to ISNA news agency, Mojtaba Yousefi said in a public session of the parliament that three-tenths of society would have to wait 120 years to buy a 70-meter unit.

Previously, Ahmad Donyamali, a member of the Supreme Housing Council, had said that 90 percent of the income of households in the lower deciles is allocated to housing and food.

In recent years, the media in Iran have published reports about the housing situation, high rents, and skyrocketing housing prices, especially in large cities like Tehran.

The above figures were announced on Tuesday, while Ali Khodai, a labor member of the Supreme Labor Council, announced that studies show that the poverty line in Iran is having an income below 10 million tomans per month.

He told Khabar Online News Agency that, based on studies conducted by the Supreme Labor Council, the poverty line in 2019 was about 8 million tomans.

Ali Khodai's remarks were made in response to the announcement of 5 million tomans as the poverty line in Tehran and 4 million tomans in other cities in Iran by the Deputy Minister of Welfare and Labor.

Previously, Morteza Bakhtiari, head of the relief committee, had said: The poverty line rose from 950,000 tomans in 2011 to 10 million tomans in 2017.

Currently, the minimum monthly wage for a married worker subject to labor law is about 4,500,000 Tomans.
