Munireh Arabshahi denied medical attention despite deteriorating condition in prison

Munireh Arabshahi, a civil activist imprisoned in Karaj's Kachhui Prison, has been denied medical attention despite her deteriorating physical condition.

According to the human rights website HRANA on Thursday, August 28, Ms. Arabshahi, who underwent surgery and had her thyroid gland removed in mid-May of this year, returned to prison on August 1 and, despite the doctor's order to undergo weekly tests and medical care, has not been tested since returning to prison.

A source familiar with the situation told HRANA, citing Ms. Arabshahi's surgeon, that she is facing "life-threatening danger" and "shock" and needs immediate medical attention.

This informed source also said that Ms. Arabshahi's condition has not been addressed since her return to prison until Thursday, August 29, under the pretext of the absence of a doctor in the prison, while she is unable to even speak and has been vomiting up everything she eats for the past four days.

Monireh Arabshahi, along with her daughter Yasman Ariani and Mojgan Keshavarz, were arrested in the summer of 2018 after a video was released showing them distributing flowers to passengers on the Tehran Metro without headscarves on the occasion of International Women's Day.

Ms. Arabshahi was sent on medical leave on May 3 after posting a bail of 500 million tomans.

Regarding Ms. Arabshahi's certificate of intolerance to imprisonment, in addition to the forensic doctor, the approval of three other trusted doctors is required administratively, but she has previously been examined by only one doctor who confirmed her intolerance to imprisonment, but the possibility of her examination by the other two doctors has not yet been provided.
